Daily care of a prosthetic eye

Cleaning, wear time, and signs that need a review.

Washing hands before prosthesis care

Small habits, lasting comfort

Most irritation comes from rough washing or a hard surface, not from the shell itself. Clean hands, the recommended solution, and a soft rest are the three constants.

A daily routine

  1. Wash and dry your hands before every contact.
  2. Set the prosthesis on a soft surface; an empty sink is not safe.
  3. Rinse with the recommended solution — never alcohol or abrasives.
  4. Keep the wear time you were taught at the fit visit.
  5. Take discharge, pain or a change in fit seriously and book a review.

When to come in sooner

If a lid reddens, the shell sits loosely, or the surface looks dull, reduce wear. A polish often restores comfort; sometimes a remake is the honest next step.
